Can you build a city in one day? Rome wasn’t… Bubbliapolis?

“Rome was not built in one day”

The city of #Bubbliapolis, so bustling, inspiring and amazing in my imagination is certainly going to take some time to get built in reality. Thank goodness for #3Dprinting that makes the planning that much faster.

Presenting… #BubblieLightHouse the icon of Bubbliapolis!

From 3D sketch:

BOL LightHouse NewEX_small

to actual object:

BubblieLightHouse

took about 24 hours! :D

With the Bubblie Lighthouse ON, hopefully more can find their ways to the city that exists in each and every heart!

#Autumn #What_inspires_kids_to_greatness ? #family #bonding #cakedesign

Jakarta, Indonesia

Helloo subscribers!!

So sorry for my rather long silence.  Been pulled in more different directions than usual, with close relatives being down on their health, numerous events, children settling into their routines in new schools etc. etc.

BUT, things are finally looking up…

So, am back and this time, with pictures! Woo hoo!

This beginning of autumn/fall season, there were two significant events… one was my husband’s birthday and the other was a surprise luncheon for my good friend.  Was inspired by autumn for both occasions.

Husband’s birthday

For as long as I can remember, I have been designing cakes for my loved ones.  And somehow, this habit (alluding to my earlier posts about #rolemodels), managed to inspire my own kids… They have started requesting themes and then designing their own cakes since they were about 4/5 years old.  For my husband this year, I have designed this cake:

3dcaketoppers

#3Dprinted #caketoppers #customdesigned and #improvised #makerfaire #robots to carry my husband’s first name S-U-G-I

The autumn touch on his cake was inclusion of the color orange on his cake toppers (inspiration: leaves turning orange…).  In the past, I have used toys, flags, clay figures as well as sugar sculptures to adorn the cakes.  Since I happen to be fascinated with #3Dprinting, an idea came to me as I was designing the cake to customize the cake toppers with #3Dprinters.

Have previously printed a few original “M” #makerfaire robots before and been experimenting mostly with color combinations.  However, suddenly I thought to change the “M” to “S-U-G-I” to represent by husband’s first name.  Thank goodness they came out pretty much like what I had in mind.  Because, apparently #3dprinting = more #precision and #consistency.  The base cake (made of sugar, cream and chocolates) was supposed to represent the earth so the robots posing together on the top of the earth after they have conquered the earth but… it didn’t turn out quite as I sketched :p

Caketopper details: #makerbot #replicator2 (the “U” & “G”) #pla and #replicator2x (the “S” & “I”) #abs

Alluding to my earlier posts about being #rolemodels for our own kids through setting good examples, this hobby of mine, designing cakes for my loved ones, has apparently inspired my own kids to do the same. This is one example of their 100% self-designed cakes.

kyra's cake

The four ballerinas were supposed to represent Kyra and her best friends. Had to ask a clay artist to make the ballerinas to get the details just right.

So far, I still helped to realize the cakes (explaining their visions to bakers and clay artists) since they’re still 7 and 6 year olds, but we as a family bonded together over the process :D. The littlest one can’t draw her own cake yet so, we’ll see whether she’ll take this family hobby up as well.  Can’t wait to know what our next cake homeworks will be… :)

5 Things A Kid Wish to Know from A Great Role Model #What_inspires_kids_to_greatness series

Jakarta, Indonesia.

Last week we were wondering what TRULY GREAT PEOPLE all have in common and the answer was a great role model.

Now, how to encourage our kids to find a great role model for themselves?

Familiar with the adages, “children mirror their parents?” “the fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree?” and so on?

Am sure, some might already guessed the answer by now; BE ONE.

TRULY GREAT PEOPLE mostly answered “mum/dad” to the question “who is your great role model.”  It is usually after a second nudge from interviewers that they would reveal non-parent great role models.  Parents, we are their default role models.

Now, how to live up to that important role?  Such a difficult position to be.  We are not perfect.  Far from it. How can we become someone else’s role model?  Are we ready? On top of it all, we all got to make ends meet etc. etc. etc.

In light of this modern dilemma, I have asked some TRULY GREAT PEOPLE, to share with us their reflections.  Apparently there are common threads across their multitude of answers.  Let’s breathe easier now, because, although these sound hard to teach, they are not impossible to impart.

Chances are, if you are still reading up to here, you are genuinely looking for ways to inspire our kids more than through material means and that means, you care and you’ll be okay. Hugs!

These are the common things they’ve mentioned so we can reflect further (note that they are not organized in the order of importance):

1. Lead by example. Consistently. Walk the talk.

2. Time management.

3. Substance over flash. Character. Integrity. Empathy. Humility. Sincerity. Wisdom.

4. The art of networking. When, if and how to apologize and mean it.

5. How to keep going when the going gets tough.

Apparently, the journey of inspiring others start with being inspired ourselves and wanting to share what we know/find.  So, let’s continue on this conversation together so we shall find more ideas to inspire our kids to unique greatness.

Meanwhile…

Happy Bonding ;)

#What_Inspires_Kids_to_Greatness ? (hint: You’d Be Mighty Glad to Know)

Jakarta, Indonesia.

Isn’t the question as relevant as ever? All parents surely want the best for the kids.  As a result of this “not so secret wish,” most parents spend tons of time and money pondering and trying to ensure kids’ greatness.

Toys, extra classes, gadgets, apps, books, trips. And so on and so forth in a seemingly endless cycle.  Alas, despite spending all those efforts, many kids simply just don’t grow up to be truly great.  Yikes!

But…parents who are still reading up to this point can be assured that their kids would most likely get an advantage over most.

I noticed something that TRULY GREAT PEOPLE that I have the privilege of knowing, ALL HAVE IN COMMON.

They certainly do not have the same parents (except for similarly GREAT siblings of course).

They can’t have played with all the same toys.

As they are from different walks of lives, they surely didn’t all go to similar classes.

Certainly not all share likes for similar gadgets/apps, read similar books nor been to certain destinations.

Startlingly though, they usually have one thing in common.

They all have: a great role model.

#BackToSchool #AcademicSuccess #OverseasEducation #Scholarships (#Beasiswa)

Jakarta, Indonesia

Wow, it is already the last day of the Lebaran Holiday.

For most kids, tomorrow will be your #BackToSchool day. Hope you and your family’s having fun preparing for tomorrow.

This weekend, I came across a very good read @kompasklass #edukasi that might inspire you and your family in restarting your academic journeys.

It’s about how to earn overseas scholarships.

I myself won a scholarship back in the days when I was in the University of California at Berkeley.  And I got to agree with what the writer of the #kompas piece said.

In essence:

1.  There are super many scholarships out there (for the super smart, for the underprivileged, for the ingenious, for the creative, but mainly; for those who work HARD).

2.  Research (where, what, which, how, DATELINES…thank goodness for google! ;) ).

3.  Prepare, prepare, prepare. Make it relevant!

Get those letters of recommendations (remember, people are busy, allow for a lot of time for them to write you sterling ones, make it easy on them, type up reminders about; who you are, highlights of your relevant academic & business relationships and relevant achievements).

Know what you want, find out the basics, build and complete everything meticulously (don’t let basic errors/clumsiness get in the way of your application; typos, missed deadlines, missing documents etc.).

4. Apply and toughen up.

How do you know that you’re not gonna get a scholarship if you don’t even apply?  If declined, reset, re-research and re-apply.

YOU can do it. Good luck! ;)

Family Forgiveness

Dear Bubbles of Love’s supporters,

Today is a very special day.  It marks the end of this year’s major fasting period/Ramadhan month.

This special time, I am very thankful to be surrounded by great solemn energy and love from all around.  I know that families will gather revelling in victory over many things and rejoicing in reunion, forgiveness and togetherness.

Happy Eid Mubarak/Selamat Idul Fitri to those who celebrate.
Minal Aidin Wal Faizin, Mohon Maaf Lahir & Bathin.
